Position Objective:

The RWC Adventure Assistant works with the Adventure Lead and the RWC Assistant Director to develop, implement, and oversee operation of RWC recreation facilities and assist with cook-out program as well as teambuilding workshops to provide a welcoming environment and with unparalleled customer service in a manner consistent with MHA’s mission, vision and values.

General Qualifications:

The Redwood Camp (RWC) Adventure Assistant is a Ministerial position. Ministerial staff render their work, stewardship, relationships and behavior as evidence of being followers of Jesus Christ while embracing and affirming Mount Hermon Association, Inc.’s (MHA) mission, vision and beliefs. They are responsible for defining, cultivating and leading MHA’s Christian community, conference programs, and retreats.

Key Job Accountabilities:

  • Set up and take down daily recreation and adventure activities.
  • Assist in the leading of adventure activities.
  • Assist in recreation facilities maintenance and upkeep, documenting and reporting on equipment needs. Assist in the adventure facility maintenance as well.
  • Assist RWC Adventure-Recreation Lead with promotion of adventure department as well as assisting in training and supervision of counselors in ropes course leadership, safety, proper use of equipment, and work toward proficiency in skills.
  • Assist RWC Program Lead in implementing set up and running games.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Pro-Ro (counselors on rotation helping run either adventure or recreation elements).

* Summer staff, exempt.

Qualifications

Education/Certifications/Licenses:

  • High school graduate; 1 year of college experience preferred.
  • Prior experience in team sports and ropes courses preferred.
  • Must be CPR/First Aid certified.

Work Experience:

  • Previous experience working with children preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Love for children of all ages is essential.
  • Well-versed in how to create and foster teachable moments through activity and able to train counseling staff to do so as well.
  • Ability to maintain strong, team-oriented work ethic in conjunction with general program staff.
  • Emotionally mature and willing to accept responsibility.
  • Must be able to lead and teach with patience and clear instruction.
  • Motivated and able to lead with empathy and discipline.
  • Must be prepared to problem solve on the job.

Physical Demands:

  • The physical environment requires the employee to work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.
  • Requires walking, sitting, and standing for 6-8 hrs. a day, seeing, hearing and talking.
  • Requires lifting and transporting 25-50 lbs. of gear and equipment up and down stairs.
  • Requires employee to ascend and/or descend ladders, stairs, cables, and trees using hands and feet.

Additional Requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age due to the requirement for onsite community living.
  • Adherence to company dress code and professional standards for personal grooming and appearance.
  • Adherence to the basic principles as expressed in MHA’s Mission, Vision, Values and Commitment statements.
  • Satisfactory completion of background investigation as well as ability to provideproof of eligibility to work in the United States.
